Vue Entertainment is one of the UK’s leading cinema developers and operators of multiplex cinemas in the UK. The Vue brand and company was launched onto the UK market in 2003 with 38 cinemas. Since then, Vue’s UK & Ireland circuit has grown to 68 cinemas with 657 screens with over 140,000 seats. In the 12 months to the end of May 2010, the company served over 37 million customers. Vue also operates a 9 screen cinema in Faro, Portugal and a 13 screen cinema in Taipei, Taiwan serving a further 1.1 million customers.
Vue has cinemas located across the whole of the UK with circa 60% of the population living within a 30 minute drive of a Vue cinema. Vue also has excellent representation in the vibrant Dublin market in Ireland with one of the top grossing cinemas in UK & Ireland and is also market leader with 19 sites in the key London market which represents 24% of the total UK box office.
The company has the most modern state-of-the-art multiplex cinema circuit in the UK with 95% of its seats in stadium seated screens, which is the highest in the market when compared to other major multiplex operators. Vue has set new standards of comfort with the introduction of premium seating through a circuit-wide rollout of over 12,000 VIP seats. These are seats in the best locations in every screen and all can be pre-booked.
Of its 657 screens, 121 are digital with 108 able to show the latest 3D films. Vue Cheshire Oaks and Vue West End were the first cinemas in Europe to show a 3D movie (Chicken Little) in February 2006. In September 2008, the company showed Keane live in 3D which was the first 3D live music event shown in cinema.
Vue is the most active developer of new cinemas in the country. Recent openings have included: Vue Bury -The Rock (Jul 2010), Vue Westfield (Feb 2010), Vue Newbury (Nov 2009), Vue Eastleigh (Apr 2009) and Vue Camberley (Nov 2008). The company has a strong pipeline of new cinemas including the prestigious Vue Stratford City part of the incredible Westfield development in located in East London (due to open Sept 2011) and Vue Halifax (due to open July 2012).
In addition to new site openings, the company’s growth has also included a number of significant acquisitions over the years totalling 15 cinemas from companies including Hoyts, Village Roadshow, Ster Century and Cinemark. In all cases the company has invested in improvements in both infrastructure and offerings.

In 2005, Vue won the prestigious award for 'International Exhibitor of the Year' at Cinema Expo. During 2006 the company’s Board and Bank of Scotland completed a successful management buyout.
